Summary of main features

Purpose
This tool can be used when monitoring routine logistics systems and operations, and processing orders at a distribution-center level. It is also adaptable for multi-tiered data management. It includes a transportation planning and resource-tracking module.

Scope of interventions
Essential medicine distribution in Malawi; HIV/AIDS and malaria program product distribution in Zambia

Limitations
Can only be used when each facility receives products from a single supplying facility. All facilities must report completely and on the same schedule. It is not a system for warehouse management and does not capture information on expiry dates (but can be linked to inventory control software with significant enhancements). It can be very costly to customize and roll out (in TA costs). Not designed for warehouse management or tracking product expiry dates.

Output
Inputs: Facility reports with information on beginning stock levels, receipts, issues, and adjustments for each product during each reporting period. Outputs: Data on national stock status, consumption trends, stock on hand, and quantities needed for the next resupply period.
