Shrinking the Malaria Map: A Guide on Malaria Elimination for Policy Makers

A Guide on Malaria Elimination for Policy MakersThe purpose of the Guide on Malaria Elimination for Policy Makers is to provide guidance and high-level technical insight to leaders in governments that are considering or have embarked upon a national or regional strategy of malaria elimination, and to the donors and partners who support them. It is a policy digest of the Prospectus on Malaria Elimination.

The Guide considers the question of whether and when to embark on malaria elimination, considering technical, operational and financial feasibility. It then reviews the two-stage process of reducing local malaria transmission to zero and then maintaining it. The Guide describes the relationships between health systems strengthening and the value of engaging non-governmental health care providers and outsourcing malaria elimination functions, stresses the need for engagement and participation of the community, as well as for regional, multi-country and cross-border collaborations.
