Reports on activities taking place in African countries to commemorate Africa Malaria Day

  • In Mozambique, there will be national and local broadcasts on radio and television, festivals will take place in major towns and a speech will be delivered by His Excellency President Chissano.
  • In Togo, public demonstrations will be held on the use and re-treatment of bed-nets, articles will be published in Newspapers, football matches have been planned in 35 districts and the Minister of Health will read out a message on malaria.
  • In Nigeria, rallies will be held in States and communities, essay competitions have been planned in schools and messages will be aired on television and radio.
  • In Malawi, a 2K walk has been planned and there will be local campaigns in schools and communities. The Minister of Health will deliver a speech preceded by entertainment in the form of traditional dances and drama performances.
  • In Cameroon, country roundtables have been organised and the discussions will be broadcast locally and regionally. Malaria clubs will be established in schools and students will perform songs on the burden of malaria.
  • In Botswana, the RBM plan will be launched by the Minister of Health and sports matches will take place between schools from different parts of the country.
  • In Chad, messages on different aspects of malaria will be delivered through radio and television broadcasts, articles, posters and banners. Public debates and conferences will be held to widen the discussion on malaria.
